The founding assembly of the Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts Chamber of Commerce, was presided by the attorney Gaston Gibeault, on January 19, 1933, at 20h00, at the Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts city hall. “A great number of citizens” assisted at the inaugural meeting, according to the minutes of the assembly.

Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts already had its association of retail merchants at the founding of the Chamber in 1933. This should all be quite familiar, as the Chamber of Commerce and the Association commerciale coexisted during the ’70s et ’80s.

The first executive committee of the Chamber was composed of Omer St-Amour, president, Joséphat Raymond, vice-president, and M. I. Walsh, vice-president, Gaston Gibeault, secretary-treasurer, as well as J. A. Cloutier, H. D. Jack, A. Kempffer, P. Belhumeur, Dr. J. A. Lacasse, Dr. Adrien Lambert, C. W. Honey and Ed Godon as director.

The first three committees of the Chamber were that of Advertising, presided by C. W. Honey, of Commerce, led by J. A. Cloutier, and Embellishment, under the direction of Dr. Adrien Lambert.

The first executives of the Chamber included a Francophone and an Anglophone vice-president. All notices of convocation were written in both languages.

The Chamber of Commerce was comprised of 63 members, only one month after its foundation. A year later, the Chamber’s membership reached 67.
